It is a much discussed topic and a controversial too, either way I wish to shine my torch on it and bring forward what the Holy Qur’an has got to say about this topic.
The Holy Qur’an was revealed fourteen hundred years ago and claims to be the word of God. At that time the normal mindset was the Greek philosophy of stationary, flat, centre of the universe, earth. However Qur’an rejects all these notions and declares that
Allah is He Who created seven heavens, and of the earth the like thereof… (65:13)
Let me just clarify this a bit further. The number seven is referred in the Holy Qur’an many times. In Arabic seven does not hold the value of seven only, seven is also used for a perfect number and an infinite number (a very large number). Also the word that translated into heaven is سماء sama and it has a broader meaning than sky or heaven. Here it is meant as a system of protecting roof or a structure that forms a roof.
Of course to better understand this verse we must read it in Arabic and comprehend what kind of language Arabic is to appreciate this verse. Explaining the kind of language Arabic is would require another post so lets get back to the point.
And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and of whatever living creatures He has spread forth in both… (42:30)
The word translated into creatures is da’bbah. It covers all animals which creep or move along the surface of the earth. It does not apply to those forms of life which fly or swim. In this verse Holy Qur’an categorically declares that extraterrestrial life does exist.
The Holy Qur’an doesn’t stop there,
…And He has the power to gather them together when He will so please. (43:30)
Jam-’i-hm is the Arabic expression in this verse which specifically speaks of bringing together of life on earth and the life elsewhere.
It is not specified when and where this meeting will take place however the Holy Qur’an has definitely pronounced that it will happen whenever Al-mighty God wills so.
One more clarification: the word jama’ can imply either a physical contact or a contact through communication.
For the Holy Qur’an to even predict this event at the time when astronomy was the sport of the astrologer is miraculous. This is one of the many prophecies still standing today yet to be fulfilled. When fulfilled it will serve as a proof of the claim it makes, i.e. it is the word of God.
